Objective

The goals of the Science Fair are to explore science and math questions and to experience the scientific method. While some children may require more guidance and direction than others, children are encouraged to conduct the experiments and complete the display board on their own. Please help children select projects that are appropriate for their age and grade level. Students will be asked to explain their experiment to a “Scientist” the night of the Science Fair.

Ground Rules for Projects
  • You must register in advance (by Fabruary 26th) to participate.
  • You must determine your topic before registering.
  • Students may conduct their experiment individually or in teams of 2-3. The maximum number of participants on a project is three.
  • Projects should be age and grade appropriate so that each child can understand and explain the experiment and its outcomes.
  • Keep it simple and inexpensive.
  • Don't wait until the last minute! A successful project requires careful thought and planning. Give yourself time to do it right.
  • No animals.
  • No household chemicals (bleach, ammonia, etc.)
  • Use a tri-fold board that stands on its own to present your experiment. This can be purchased at Staples, AC Moore, Michaels, The Paper Store etc.
  • Important: Children may not pass out any candy, gum or other items at the Fair.
  • Follow the Project Guidelines to design your experiment and prepare your presentation.
  • Most of all .. keep it FUN and SAFE!
Registration

Registration will be done online. Simply click on REGISTRATION at the Science Fair website homepage, complete the form, and click submit.

  • The Nixon Science Fair is voluntary and open to students grades K-5.
  • Students must be registered in advance to participate. Online registration will open Monday, February 8. The deadline to register is Friday, February 26.
  • Students must determine their topics before registering.

  • Don’t forget to look for your name on the bulletin board!!

Fair Night

Children may not pass out any candy, gum or other items at the Science Fair.

Setup: The Fair will begin at 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:00 so that students can set up their experiments and presentations before the Fair begins. Maps will be provided to help determine your assigned location.

Scientists: During the Fair, each student will be visited by an adult Scientist; who will ask the child questions about his or her experiment.

Science Quest Activity: All school-aged children who attend the Fair, whether they have conducted an experiment or not, will have the opportunity to participate in our Science Quest activity. This activity will encourage students to learn about experiments conducted by their friends and classmates.

Science Trivia & Slide Show: We hope you will join us for a Science Trivia game and to watch a Slide Show of the Fair. These events will take place in the Cafeteria to conclude the Fair.

Snack Sale: Snacks and drinks will be on sale in the Cafeteria throughout the evening. No food or drink is allowed to leave the Cafeteria.
